Over 50s Volunteering

One Good Reason

If you’re over 50 and interested in finding out more about volunteering, what it is and how you can get involved then you’re in the right place.  For the last three years the Unlocking Potential Project has been helping people from all walks of life to find their “One Good Reason to Volunteer…”  There’s no right or wrong reason to volunteer.  Some people volunteer because a particular cause is close to their heart, some people volunteer to stay fit and active, others to pass on or learn new skills, all volunteers make new friends and have fun.

One common misconception some people have is that volunteering will take over their lives.  You can decide to volunteer once at a one off event or an action day or whether you volunteer a few hours a week or a few hours a month with an organisation is up to you. Volunteering should be fun, satisfying and on your terms.

By clicking the links in the drop down list to your left under over 50s volunteering you can find out about various initiatives aimed at people aged 50+.

We regularly organise opportunities for people to try out volunteering to see if it’s for them.  Details of these can be found in our ‘Events Calendar' page or by viewing the One Good Reason newsletter.

The ‘Unlocking Potential’  Project produces a range of research to support the work of the project. This research is specific to NI and focuses  on volunteering by the 50+ age group. The information gathered is used to produce up to date and relevant best practice guidance, shapes the support offered by the project as well as outlining lifestyle trends and volunteering pattern of this age group.  You can access the full range of reports from
