Funding

Providing adequate resources to support volunteering is really important to involving volunteers effectively.  Volunteers are not a free resource and many organisations need to seek funding to cover the costs of involving volunteers. This section of the website also provides links to other sources of funding for volunteering. Click on the links below for further details on the latest funding opportunities which are available for your organisation.

  • The Community Development and Health Network (CDHN) is opening a new round of funding through the Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership Programme (BCPP). BCPP is about local communities and pharmacists, working together using a community development approach, to meet local health needs. There are three levels of funding. The closing date for Level 1 is 27 September 2012. The closing date for Level 2 & 3 is 19 April and 15 November 2012.   • Progressive Building Society - A Community Awards Scheme Panel, working independently of the Society, meet twice yearly to assess applications and allocate awards ranging from £200 to £2,000. Applications for Community Awards must be made using the Society's Application Form, which must bear the nomination of a current Member of the Society. Applications submitted without the nomination of a current Member will be returned. Applications will only be accepted from non-profit organisations working for the benefit of communities within Northern Ireland. Judging takes place twice a year at approximately the end of May and November. www.theprogressive.com/about-progressive/in-the-community
  • Awards for All Northern Ireland - This programme is delivered and funded by the Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland and awards funds of between £500 – £10,000 over a 12 month period. The main aim of the programme is to bring real improvements to communities and to the lives of people most in need by funding projects which involve people in their communities, bringing them together to enjoy a wide range of charitable, community, educational, environmental and health-related activities.www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/prog_a4a_ni
  • www.villagesos.org.uk directs people to the best source of funding for their community business, including more details about the Village SOS Active competition. The competition has £5m Big Lottery funding, in awards of £10,000 - £30,000 for the brightest ideas for new community enterprises that will make a lasting difference in rural communities with a population of less than 3,000.
  • A new £100,000 grant scheme, to promote working between generations and encourage active ageing has been launched. The new small grant scheme will assist people with intergenerational and active ageing projects and help to deliver social change through promoting age equality and reducing social exclusion. It is aimed specifically at community groups and voluntary organisations. Details about the scheme will soon be available on www.ofmdfmni.gov.uk
  • The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to local projects that support children and their education and welfare, elderly people and adults and children with disabilities. There are four rounds of funding each year. Applications should be made via the online application form.
