Volunteers working in Social Care do not need to register with the NISCC

The Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) has a statutory obligation under the Health and Personal Social Services Act (NI) 2001 to maintain a register of social care workers who are working within a regulated activity setting.
The DHSSPSNI is responsible for bringing forward regulations under the Act to prescribe the groups who are to be registered and this registration process is currently being phased in. The NISCC has confirmed that registration is not required for those people who work in social care solely in a voluntary capacity.
